Food

I truly believe that you are what you eat. Whatever your diet is made up of is going to reflect in your physical and mental health. This week we are diving into the topic of cognitive nutrition and taking a look at all the foods which are good for our brain.

Mental well-being is everything, so we should be doing everything in our power to ensure that we keep our brains healthy and this starts with our diets. There are superfoods for the brain and we should be eating a diet that limits foods that spike our insulin levels, which can cause inflammation throughout the body including in the brain.

It is all about making good, healthy choices. Instead of reaching for that tub of ice cream, why not have an avocado instead? Avocados are really good for us. They consist of good fats which really help our brains. We should also be eating lots of fatty fish which is full omega-3.

The diet we should be eating basically follows a Mediterranean diet but is lower in carbohydrates. It includes foods which increase mental alertness and boost our mental power. There are even some nutritionists who believe that such a diet could even help prevent neurodegenerative illnesses such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

In other news this week, turn to our Sport pages to read about the Wimbledon men’s final between Novak Djokovic and the bad boy of tennis, Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons due to his dramatic tantrums and shouting on the court. It seems he can’t play without causing a scene. I was so happy that Djokovic beat him in four sets to win for the fourth time in a row. In my opinion there is no room for that type of bad behaviour in any sport.
