We’ll miss you, Diego

Diego Maradona — A legend to remember for all times to come.

Diego Maradona, who died on Wednesday, will forever be remembered as one of the greatest footballers. He was 60. Widely regarded as one of the greatest football players, Maradona died at his home in Argentina (“Maradona, playmaker goes back to his Maker,” Nov.26, Gulf Today).

There’s no doubt that the world has lost a legend.

Remembering his wonderful and gentle soul will forever remain in our hearts.

For me it was a very sad news. As a footballer and diehard fan of Maradona, I have lost my hero, and the world has lost a legend. For now may God give him eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the great pain.

The Argentine government has declared three days of mourning.

In the Buenos Aires suburb of Villa Crespo, the song “La Mano de Dios” by folk singer Rodrigo Bueno rang out from a balcony, a reference to a goal Maradona scored with his hand against England in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

At club level, Maradona broke on to the scene with Buenos Aires’ Boca Juniors before playing in Spain with Barcelona. He was idolised in Italy after leading Napoli to their first ever Italian league title in 1987. He ended his playing career back in Argentina, returning to Boca.

Condolences to the bereaved family. My tears are flowing for my mentor, a great man. God rest his soul in peace!
