Final battleground

Donald-Trump

A battleground state where US President Donald Trump won in 2016 is crucial as he woos voters in Pennsylvania on Monday (“Brash and pugnacious,” Nov.1, 2020, Gulf today).

His chances of defeating Democratic challenger Joe Biden and winning a second term totally depend on this state.

“We win Pennsylvania, we win the whole thing,” the Republican president told cheering supporters in Allentown. More than 60 million Americans already have cast ballots ahead of the Nov. 3 election, a record-breaking pace that could lead to the highest US voter turnout by percentage in more than a century.

Trump told in a rally in Pennsylvania on Oct. 26, “If I don’t sound like a typical Washington politician, it’s because I’m not a politician. Make America Great Again.”

Businessman-turned-politician Donald Trump has promoted “America First” nationalism, withstood impeachment and taken a contentious stand on race and immigration during a turbulent presidency that detractors say has flouted US democratic norms. As a matter of fact, the President assumed the presidency in January 2017 after his “surprise” victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in November 2016.
