The UAE announced the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile launched towards it by the Houthi terrorist group on Monday.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) said in a statement that the armed forces have intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched towards the UAE.

The ministry confirmed in a statement that "there were no casualties resulting from the attack and the fragments of the ballistic missile fell outside of populated areas."

The UAE Ministry of Defence Joint Operations Command said that it destroyed the platform used for ballistic missile launched from Al-Jawf, Yemen, towards UAE at 00:50. The missile was intercepted at 00:20 by UAE air defences. A video of the successful destruction of missile platform was released to the media. 

It added, "The UAE air defence forces and the Coalition Command had succeeded in destroying the missile launcher in Yemen after identifying locations of the sites."

The ministry affirmed its "full readiness to deal with any threats," adding that it will "take all necessary measures to protect the UAE from any attacks."

The ministry also called on the public to follow the news from the UAE’s official authorities.

Last week, the state-run news agency WAM reported that the UAE intercepted two ballistic missiles targeting Abu Dhabi.

The WAM said that missile fragments fell harmlessly over Abu Dhabi.

"The remnants of the intercepted ballistic missiles fell in separate areas around Abu Dhabi," the UAE Defence Ministry said, adding it was taking necessary protective measures against all attacks.

The UN Security Council unanimously condemned the attacks on Abu Dhabi by Yemen's Houthi rebels as "heinous terrorist attacks" and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

The declaration on the Houthis came after an apparent drone attack by the rebels near oil storage facilities in Abu Dhabi left two Indians and a Pakistani dead.

UAE Ambassador to the United Nations Lana Nusseibeh said the coalition fighting Yemen's Houthi rebels is committed to "proportionate" responses to Houthi attacks.

Lana Nusseibeh said that Houthis wanted to kill the maximum number of civilians and inflict major damage to facilities in Abu Dhabi.

Lana told reporters that an investigation into the strikes revealed that Sanaa was amongst other places in Yemen from where the cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones were launched.
