Various parts of the country on Wednesday witnessed rainfall of varying intensity, after an extension of a surface low-pressure system, accompanied by an extension of an upper air low pressure, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Light rain began falling at 3:30 pm on Al Amrah and Al Sad areas in the city of Al Ain, while Al Sad-Suwaihan road, Abu Samra and Ramah in Al Ain witnessed medium to heavy rain, the NCM said.

Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah recorded the lowest temperature in the country (21.5ºC) on Wednesday at 6am, while the highest temperature in the country was 47ºC in Suwaihan in Al Ain at 2.30 pm, the NCM added.

The National Centre of Meteorology urged the public to exercise caution while driving amid rainfall and poor horizontal visibility. It also advised people to stay away from surface run-offs caused by rainwater.

The Abu Dhabi Police also called on drivers to be careful due to the rainy weather, and to abide by the variable speed limits shown on signboards and electronic screens.

As for the weather forecast, the NCM indicated that the weather on Thursday would be partly cloudy and hazy at times, with a chance of some convective clouds formation eastward and southward, marked by rain. Light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds freshening at times blowing dust and sand were expected with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 40 km/hr. The sea waves will be slight to moderate and rough by Friday morning northward in the Arabian Gulf and slight to moderate in the Gulf of Oman, the NCM added.

The weather on Friday was expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy over some areas and hazy at times, with a probability of some convective clouds formation eastward and southward. Temperatures could decrease gradually. Light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds freshening at times blowing dust and sand were likely, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 40 km/hr. The sea tides would be moderate to rough in the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

The weather on Saturday could follow a similar pattern, expected to remain partly cloudy to cloudy over some areas with a chance of rainfall associated with some convective clouds especially eastward and southward. Light to moderate easterly to northeasterly winds blowing dust and sand, reducing visibility, were likely. The sea waves could be moderate, becoming rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
