VIDEO: Sinkhole swallows a chunk of hospital’s car park in Naples

A huge section of a hospital car park in Naples got swallowed by a sinkhole on Friday leading to the evacuation of patients.

The sinkhole measured about 500 square metres (5,400 square feet) swallowing several cars, however, nobody was injured, firefighters said.

"Intervention in the car park of the Ospedale del Mare for a sinkhole," Italy's fire service tweeted, adding that several parked cars had fallen inside and dog units were on site.

Vincenzo De Luca, the head of the Campania region blamed the disaster on a hydro-geological problem.

The ward was "temporarily closed because of the absence of hot water and electricity", the local health service said.
