UAE reports 528 new COVID-19 cases, to test 2 million in two months

UAE conducted 28,000 Covid-19 tests and revealed 528 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 52,068. One death was reported.

The UAE Government held a news briefing where Dr. Amna Al Shamsi, UAE Government spokesperson gave an update on the coronavirus (Covid - 19) developments.

Dr Al Shamsi said, “More than 28,000 Covid-19 tests were performed, revealing 528 new cases and bringing the total number of cases to 52,068. The new cases identified are undergoing treatment."

The government spokesperson said, “We regret to announce that one person who tested positive for COVID-19 died due to complications. This brings the total death toll to 324. Our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.”

Dr. Al Shamsi said, “The total number of recovered cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) has reached 40,721 with 424 cases recovered today after receiving treatment. The currently cases infected with Covid-19 who are still undergoing treatment are 11,023 as of today.”

UAE health authorities continue to increase testing capacity for Covid-19, with additional 2 million tests to be performed in the coming two months, across the country.

Al Shamsi said, “The new testing plan will cover different segments of UAE society. Public transportation and taxi drivers, services and hotel sectors, shopping centers’ staff and government employees will be included in the COVID-19 testing plan

“While it is worrying to see a slight increase in cases in the past few days, it is a reminder that we all should be responsible and committed to follow health practices and abide by the precautionary measures laid down by the UAE Government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.”
