Major General Fares Khalaf Al Mazroui, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, stressed the importance of the family's role in confronting the scourge of drugs.

Parents can follow by detecting any changes that may occur in children's behaviors, especially in adolescence, stressing the need to build a space for continuous dialogue between members of the same family, and not to compromise in seeking assistance from the authorities concerned to fight drugs.

He said in a statement on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls on June 26th each year, that the family is the first shield of protection for children from falling into the clutches of drugs, by creating a stable, safe family atmosphere, based on love, understanding and dialogue, and constantly guiding children, and finding appropriate ways to engage them in positive activities, occupying their minds and free time, and establishing in them a spirit of giving, creativity and volunteering to serve society and the nation.

He praised the country's vigorous national efforts to protect the nation from the drug epidemic, whether in the field of awareness, treatment and aftercare, calling on families to play their part, support government and community efforts by paying attention to children and caring, and providing opportunities and sufficient space to prove their ability to give to society and belong to the homeland.

Abu Dhabi Police is in no effort to employ advanced security technologies and highly qualified human resources to protect society from the scourge of drugs, which targets all the world's youth, capabilities and capacities, he said.
