Sultan receives ‘Supporting Poetry Creativity’ award

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, was awarded by the Arab League the “Excellence of Supporting Poetry Creativity” award for his generous and vital role in supporting Arab poetry and poets.

The award was received on behalf of His Highness by Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office in a ceremony held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Arab League in the Egyptian Capital.

The ceremony was attended by Ahmed Abu Al Ghait, Secretary-General of the Arab League; Amr Musa, former Secretary-General of the Arab League; Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League; amongst other cultural and political figures.

The ceremony was held on the sidelines of the fifth Arab Conference of Culture and Creativity, organised by the General Secretariat of the Arab League under the title “Managing Culture and Cultural Dialogue”.

 His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah issued law No. (2) of 2020, on the organisation of the Sharjah Civil Defense (SCD) in the emirate.

The new law stipulates that the main headquarters of the Sharjah Civil Defence will be in Sharjah city and upon the Council’s approval; it may set up branches outside the emirate.

The Sharjah Civil Defence should work within its competencies assigned to it in the new law, concerning for the protection of life and property.

According to the new law, the General Directorate of Sharjah Civil Defence should enhance safety and civil protection in line with its strategic objectives and goals.

The law also stated that the Director General of the Sharjah Civil Defence shall be appointed by an Emiri Decree, assisted by a sufficient number of military and civilian workers in accordance with its organisational structure. He shall have necessary authority and powers to manage the Directorate’s affairs and take the needed decisions to achieve its various objectives.

The law also stated that the Directorate’s organisational structure shall be issued by an Emiri Decree.

The Director General shall issue the decisions, circulars and all necessary measures to implement the provisions of this law.

The Directorate Sharjah Civil Defense shall be exempted from all local government taxes and fees in all its forms and manifestations, with the exception of consumption charges.

The law shall be effective from the date of its issuance and other competent authorities should implement its provisions each in its respective field, and shall be published in the Official Gazette. Any provision contrary to the provisions of this law shall be repealed.

Sheikh Sultan received on Wednesday morning a delegation from University of Cambridge at Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre for Gulf Studies (Dara).

Headed by Dr. Stephen J. Toope, Vice-Chancellor of University of Cambridge, the delegation was welcomed by Sheikh Sultan as he exchanged academic views with the delegation members.

Sheikh Sultan toured the corridors of the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre for Gulf Studies (Dara) with the guests, and reviewed the most important historical contents, documents and manuscripts, and the souvenirs of Sheikh Sultan received from various heads of state, organisations and international universities.

Sheikh Sultan inaugurated the new headquarters for Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies (EIBFS), located at the Institutes Area, University city in Sharjah.

Sheikh Sultan toured the new building and the facilities including its halls which meets the demand of EIBFS’s students.

Sheikh Sultan listened to an explanation about the EIBFS’s educational plans that would qualify the national cadres and leaders in the financial and banking sector.

On Tuesday, Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, President of the American University of Sharjah, chaired the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, SRTIP, which was held on Tuesday morning at the SRTIP headquarters.
