The Dubai Criminal Court on Monday sentenced a 27-year-old Asian worker to life imprisonment for killing his colleague to avoid returning to his homeland due to differences with his brother.

According to police records, a sergeant at Dubai Police testified that the operations room was alerted about a brawl between two people at Nad Al Hamar area in an uncompleted building.

One person was seriously injured and transferred by ambulance to hospital, but died there.

The other person has been arrested by the police patrol. Witnesses at the scene explained that they saw the defendant crouching on the victim's chest and suffocating him with a cloth.

Upon interrogating the accused, he confessed to murdering the victim by strangling him with a piece of cloth, which he found next to him.

As for the reason behind his act, the accused admitted wanting to serve jail terms in the country to avoid returning to his homeland and facing his brother.

He said that a person sent a picture of him naked to his brother in his homeland, so he is afraid of his brother who threatened him and wanted him to return home.
