The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) expects that the weather today will be partly cloudy at times and hazy over some areas especially northward and eastward with a probability of some convective clouds formation over eastern mountains by afternoon. Temperatures tend to increase slightly, humid during the night and Saturday early morning westward. There may be moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, freshening at times causing blowing dust and sand during daytime, with a speed of 20-30km/hr, reaching 40km/hr at times. The sea will be moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea till Saturday, the NCM added.
It has further indicated that the country is being affected by an extension of low pressure from the east extending westward, with an upper air low pressure associated with high and medium clouds and easterly winds with suspended dust during end of the period, especially over eastern areas.
The NCM continued, “The temperatures tend to slightly decrease on Sunday, while the winds will be moderate and active at times laden with dust, particularly along the northern and eastern parts till Monday with a probability of convective clouds formation over the Eastern mountains in the afternoon and the sea will be light to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.”
In a statement issued on Thursday, it has further warned sea-goers of rough seas in the Arabian Gulf as a result of fresh northwesterly winds that reach 45 km/hr.
The Centre said that wave heights are expected to be between four to six feet offshore until eight pm on Thursday.
Last month, the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah witnessed medium to heavy rain, which lasted continuously for almost an hour and a half. The rains caused dense run-offs in various parts, including valleys of Al-Liat, Al-Huwaidi, Al-Muzeira, Musaili, Thuraimeda, Shahat, Al-Ajili, Masafi, Asfni and Shouka.
The rainfall began at 3.30pm and last until 4.30pm continuously.
The rains extended from Shouka to Wadi Burraq, covering the nearby mountainous highlands. The weather consequently tended to be cold during the rainfall, as temperatures and humidity noticeably dropped.
