The stunning performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in the parliamentary elections in India surprised Indian expatriates across the UAE. While the opponents of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were expecting a favourable result with the help of regional parties, the landslide victory to BJP and its partners pleasantly surprised Modi’s supporters in the UAE.

However, after the initial euphoria and shock, expatriates in the UAE expressed hope that the new government under Narendra Modi’s leadership will deliver on its promises.

Veteran member of the community Dr. Ram Buxani said that the election results have established the maturity of Indian electorate.

“Modi has now five years to finish his agenda and promises. Removal of corruption at all levels, promoting water travels, seriously implement ‘Make in India’ promise. During the past five years we have seen ‘Make in China’ being promoted. Indian brands are needed. A Korean brand manufactured in India is not the solution,” he said.

Buxani, Chairman of the ITL Cosmos Group, said that he was planning to exercise my vote for the first time in my life during this election, but could not do so due to bureaucratic delay in completing online formalities.

Nimish Makvana, President of the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), Dubai, congratulated members of the Indian diaspora spread across the world on this huge victory and welcome them to an era of reform, peace and prosperity.

Makvana said that the huge win for Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led alliance is a strong signal for his work for  India and its people.

“Indians all across the globe are happy with the good work done during the last five years. This is substantiated by the NDA victory from west to east and north to south.”

He expressed confidence that continuing with the policies initiated during the last five years and putting them to its conclusion will achieve great results for Indians and India will continue to step up in ladder as a global player.
