Matar reigns supreme at SYL swimming championship

In keeping with their tradition to develop leadership, sporting acumen and  technical skills through various challenges, Sajaya Young Ladies (SYL), hosted their first swimming championship in collaboration with the UAE Swimming Federation, for members aged 13-18 years.

Through this event, the Rubu Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators subsidiary targeted talented swimmers, with a special focus on the freestyle and backstroke technique. Apart from improving the young ladies’ capabilities in an enthusiastic, challenging and competitive atmosphere, its ultimate goal was to form a team of champions who can represent the UAE internationally.

Conditions for selection of the contestants included participation from the affiliate bodies of the Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah, candidates had to be medically fit and committed to the training period.  

Three intense training sessions were held for 20 candidates, over a period of six months. Participants were divided into two groups with 10 girls in the age group of 13-15 years and another 10 young ladies in the age group of 16-18 years.

The winners were awarded in the presence of Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director-General of Sharjah Women Sports Tournament (SWSF) and members of its preparatory committee.

Within the first category where participants were aged between 13–15 years, taking the first place was Amna Saeed Matar, Alaa Ibrahim  Mohammed took the second place and Hend Khaled Al Hammadi stood third.

In the second category, where participants were between 16-18 years old, Sara Ahmed Murad won the first place, Maria Ahmed Al Zarouni stood second, and Mira Ibrahim Salem won the third prize.
