Game of Thrones fans the world over are waiting on the edge of their seats for the release of the final season on April 14. In honour of what is, perhaps one of the most popular television shows of all time, we take a look back at some of the most interesting characters who have kept audiences coming back for more season after season.

Daenerys Targaryen, or Mother of Dragons as she is also known, is played by British actress Emilia Clarke. Targaryen was first introduced to the show as the exiled princess of the Targaryen dynasty. The character develops from a scared girl to a powerful woman with Clarke’s acting skills praised by critics. She has been nominated for several awards over the years including best supporting actress at the Emmy Awards in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

Robb Stark was a popular character up until his death at The Red Wedding in season 3. Played by British actor Richard Madden, Stark was the temporary king of Westeros who ruled with his heart and tried to bring peace to the Thrones universe. This character is still definitely missed.

Probably the most hated character in the whole series of Game of Thrones is Joffrey Baratheon. For four seasons viewers were tormented and enraged by his evil behaviour. Irish actor Jack Gleeson played him to perfection until he was poisoned in season 4 much to the delight of audiences.
