Various areas in the country witnessed light to heavy rain on Friday afternoon, as a result of formation of cumulus clouds towering over some inland and eastern areas.
Heavy rain was reported from Dubai’s Al Awir, Lahbab, and Margham. Moderate rain fell on some areas of Sharjah.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has pointed to an extension of a surface low pressure over the country, accompanied by an upper ridge.
The NCM said convective clouds formation associated with rainfall and fresh winds will blow dust and sand in some areas reducing horizontal visibility to less than 1,000 metres at times over some eastern areas for Friday.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution in the streets.
The NCM has expected that the volatile weather may remain likely today with rainfall of different intensities over most areas of the country, associated with thunder activity at times and hailstones fall.
There were showers in the emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, and Fujairah.
