Eid Al Fitr 2019 is here ringing, which proves to be more joyful and family-oriented as the UAE is on its nine-day holiday.

Take a peep at how Filipinos are celebrating the occasion, embracing the Emirati culture, with family and loved ones.

Housewife Sabrine Pena of Deira, Dubai and from Noveleta, Cavite: “Unlike last year when we spent the holidays while I was pregnant, this Eid Al Fitr is one thing I would definitely cherish in my heart and memory lane since John and I already have a healthy baby boy. We are grateful for the week-long vacation. It is an awesome period for another quality family time especially as we are going to be together 24 hours for nine days.

“First off our baby-friendly plans is a day or two at a beach hotel. There will be trips to our recently-discovered restaurants that serve our favourite dishes. An early morning or late afternoon picnic at Kite Beach with friends will definitely cap our local celebration.”

Gulf Labour Markets and Migration & Population associate/Zayed University-Institute for Social and Economic Research associate Froilan T. Malit Jr. of Dubai and from Pampanga: “I am continuing my volunteering work within my local community and beyond, as well as strengthening and reflecting on my faith and happiness. This momentous season is not only a time of personal reflection but also should be a time of global compassion towards others, especially those marginalised in our society.”

MyBazar start-up e-commerce marketplace manager Rayhanah Natangcop-Guinomla of Muhaisnah 4, Dubai and from Marawi City, Lanao del Sur: “Eid holidays always make me long for home. Coming from a big family on both mother and father sides, I always make it a point to take advantage of this celebration to reconnect and strengthen relationships with family and relatives.

“In the same essence, this Eid is about spending quality time with the kids by having fun-filled, recreational as well as entertaining activities. We are hosting families from other emirates and visiting friends too.”

Sharjah Coop Society cashier Reymanuel Montaner of Al Nabaa Street, Sharjah and from Cotabato City, Bangsamoro Region: “As we are celebrating Eid Al Fitr, it is time to give Zakathul Fitr (obligatory minimum five-kilogramme rice or Dhs20 money donation to complete fasting). It is the best time to ask for forgiveness from anyone, especially from our family. It is time to be thankful as we must always be thankful to our Almighty Allah for all the blessings He continually showers on us. It is the time to make duaa (wish). Happy Eid Al Fitr!”

Interior designer/artist Jeanelyn Jarder of Falcon City Wonders, Dubai and from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental: “I am continuing collecting donations from friends for the 350 women wards temporarily sheltered at the Philippine Overseas Labour Office in Dubai. I had been collecting in the past weeks since Ramadan is the season of giving and blessings. It is also the season to give back to the community. Thus my project.

“I do not have much in life but I was encouraged by my parents to share whatever blessings that come my way.

“It was my birthday on June 2 and from May 31, I organised Iftars for the women wards. I hope I was able to touch their lives and like others, let them know that they are loved.

“I am asking my brethren who have enough resources to share their blessings as well. Let us make the world a better place.”

Projects sales coordinator Trisha Anne Licardo-Caro of Al Muteena, Dubai and from Dagupan City, Pangasinan: “This year, my husband and I have decided to just stay home – staycation, to use the word – and have that much needed rest and relaxation because of our busy schedules.

“We are on the binge mode in watching movies and series through Netflix. We will also go out and enjoy the sales and promos widespread across Dubai.

“We see ourselves in another round of movies at the cinema. We will definitely eat in a nice restaurant. It is spending quality time as a couple.”

Architect Bryan Vincent Barba of Abu Dhabi and from San Juan City, Metro Manila: “Ramadan is a special time for us. It is the month of reflection and being thankful for all our everyday blessings.

“This Eid, my family are going around the UAE. We are set to visit the parks that offer great deals. It is the time to unwind and relax with our relatives and friends.
