Five face charge of possessing 3.2m narcotic tablets

The Criminal Court of Dubai on Monday started the trial of a gang consisting of five Arab drivers who are facing charge of possessing 3.2 million Amphetamine pills weighing about half a kilogram.
The prosecution witness, a Major at the Anti-Narcotics Department of Dubai Police, testified that the department had received information indicating that the second defendant, who resides in an Arab country is bossing a gang specialised in importing and exporting psychotropic substances (Captagon). It was also known that the major defendant was possessing a certain quantity of narcotics intended to be transfer to a neighboring Gulf state.
Through the investigations, the major defendant was located in Raqqet Al-Bateen area. Consequently, a team from the department moved to the determined location, where he stopped his car in front of one buildings.
He then made several maneuvers to uncover any surveillance around him. After that, he got-off the car, where he was raided and arrested by the security teams. He was searched, but nothing was found. But when the car was searched, two bags containing 10 packets containing drugs were seized in its trunk and three other bags containing 15 packets were found in the back seat, the witness added.
On questioning the defendant, he confessed to the other suspects, who were arrested as well.
Each of them worked as a driver and drove a car used to transport drugs.
All defendants admitted that the roles were to transfer drugs between the Gulf countries.
The total amount of about 3.2 million Captagon tablets weighing about 500 grams were sized in their possession.
Recently, the Dubai Criminal Court ruled that a drug abuser who thrust a kick on the chest of a policeman during a standoff will spend five years behind bars.
The unemployed Arab defendant, 31, possessed with the intention of using 7.64 grammes of heroin stashed inside a plastic box and heroin saturated in a 0.2 ml liquid he filled in a plastic syringe.
