It’s up to Britain when it chooses to exit the European Union, the bloc’s chief executive said on Tuesday, adding that it was not his working assumption that Brexit could be reversed or extended beyond a new Oct.31 deadline.
The EU is on a break from Brexit and will focus on other policy matters, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said in a speech on last week’s Brexit summit to a plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
"It is with great regret that I have had to conclude that as things stand, there is still not sufficient support in the House to bring back the deal for a third meaningful vote," May told the House of Commons.
At risk of losing control of the process of leaving the European Union, the leader announced she would resign if parliament finally backed her withdrawal agreement.
Brexit is a black hole. For the past three years, it has been swallowing up politicians’ attention, parliament’s time, public money and the bulk of the news agenda. And it’s far from over.
