Sharjah Heritage Days shine in their 17th edition

Sharjah Heritage Days will run up to April 20.

SHARJAH: Held under the theme ‘Craft & Calligraphy,’ the press conference for the 17th edition of Sharjah Heritage Days took place on March 28 at the Sheraton Sharjah, and shed light on the Emirate’s role in promoting their diverse culture to an international audience. Sharjah Heritage Days will run up to April 20 in 11 cities and regions across the Emirate.

The inaugural speech was given by Dr Abdulaziz Almusallam, Chairman of Sharjah Institute for Heritage and Chairman of the Higher Committee of Sharjah Heritage Days. The Republic of Tajikistan is the official guest of honour for “Sharjah Heritage Days” this year. The special guest is The Republic of China.

Dr Abdulaziz Almusallam said: “The primary goal of SHD is to promote the Emirate’s diverse culture and rich heritage aimed at attracting people from across the region and all over the world. It is commendable to witness participation in SHD increasing each year. I extend my heartiest appreciation to everyone in supporting our vision of promoting the diverse and rich heritage of our nation.”

Sixty countries from around the world including Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Canada, Britain, Sudan, China, Japan, Brazil, Spain, India, Mexico, Austria, Bahrain, Egypt, Netherlands, Iraq, Sultanate of Oman, Slovakia, Argentina, Nigeria, Italy, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Palestine, Mauritania among others are participating in this year’s edition of SHD.

About 700 participants including artisans, experts, writers, researchers, and media professionals are taking part in this year’s event; 22 international groups, 15 government agencies and 18 bands from within the state were also a part of this year’s celebrations. The event also featured participation from several international organisations including CIOFF, IOV and The University of Zhejiang China.

Sharjah Heritage Days is a cultural event featuring a diversity of exiting activities and exhibits activities held within a vibrant and entertaining atmosphere.
