Crafts workshop launched in Yemen’s Khokha with Emirati support

KHOKHA: The UAE, represented by the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, on Monday launched a crafts workshop in Khokha city on the Red Sea Coast of Yemen, following its refurbishment. The workshop was fitted with equipment and supplies to support sustainable development projects that help Yemeni families improve their income generating capacities.

An ERC representative on the Red Sea Coast said that the workshop would contribute to encouraging, supporting and training women, and empowering them to make a living to help their families. The project included the reconstruction and refurbishment of the workshop building structure, and equipping it with sewing machines, an electricity generator, and necessary supplies, the ERC clarified.

Hashim Al Azazi, Under-Secretary of the Hodeidah Governorate asserted that the UAE, represented by the ERC, implemented a number of projects in the humanitarian, service and developmental fields, in the Red Sea Coast areas. The workshop will serve a large sector of women in Khokha, Hais and At Tuhayta districts, by qualifying and training 2,000 women from the families of martyrs’ and other needy families.

Asia Omar Dobla, Director of the Sewing Workshop in Khokha, said that the ERC provided sewing machines, fabric and all the necessary items to begin implementing the first stage of the programme of training and qualifying the girls. She asserted the project’s importance as it would allow women to learn sewing so they could develop their capabilities and improve the living conditions for themselves and their family members. Several beneficiaries expressed their happiness with the project for the same reason.
