Model-turned-Malayalam-actor Sahana was found dead in her home in Kerala on Thursday, a day after celebrating her 22nd birthday.

The actor died in mysterious circumstances as police said it was too early to say how the young actor passed away.

Some reports claim that she died by hanging, but nothing has been confirmed. 

The police detained her husband, Sajjad, after the family of the deceased claimed that she was killed by him.

Sahana's mother stated that the couple fought repeatedly over how to spend the money her daughter earns.

She also reported that her daughter's husband did not allow her to see them, invite them to her home, or phone them, in addition to her being subjected to domestic violence.

It was also revealed that the neighbours witnessed these incidents.

The mother said, “Sahana would never die by suicide, she was murdered…”

It had been a year and a half since Sahana and Sajjad's marriage, and during that time she was not living a happy life as he was harassing her for money.

In the details of the accident, local media stated that Sahana's neighbour was the first to notice that something was wrong in the apartment, after he heard Sajjad screaming for help, claiming that he found Sahana dead.

Upon his arrival at the house the neighbour saw the actress lying on his lap motionless. This prompted him to call the police.

Police said that Sajjad called them said he found his wife dead in the bathroom.

Police also confirmed the allegations that Sajjad is a drug addict.
