UAE women athletes delivered one of their finest performances on Sunday at the ongoing Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST) bringing home medals in fencing, javelin, discuss throw and track and field events.

Marwa Al Jasmi, from Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, secured a gold for the UAE with a solid throw of 24.29m. Her team-mate Jawaher Al Hazimi (23.73m) bagged the silver while Kuwait’s Sara Anwar from Al Fatat Sports Club took the third position with her 21.18m throw.

Fatima Al Hosani from Sharjah Women’s Sports Club emerged triumphant in the discus throw competition after registering 41.53m in the final throw. Bahrain’s Noura Jasim took the silver after logging 40.82m while the bronze went to Zakia Khalfan from Oman’s Al Bashair Club for throwing a personal best of 29.5m.

UAE fencers continued their stellar performance in fencing claiming both gold and silver medals in the Foil individuals category. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club fencer Latifa Al Hosani bagged the gold, while the silver was clinched by UAE’s Noura Mohammed Al Breiki from Baniyas Club. The bronze was shared by Bahrain Al Hala Club fencers Laila Hasan and Samia Khaled.

Sportswomen at Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club continued their stellar achievements at AWST 2020 with their domination in the track and field events.

Clocking 2:16:89 minutes, Manal Al Bahrawi sprinted past to win the gold while Kuwait’s Amal Al Romi from Al Fatat Sports Club bagged the silver for her 2:21:18 minute run. The bronze medal went to UAE’s Muhra Abdul Rahim from Sharjah Women’s Sports club after she crossed the finish line in 2:31:43 minutes.

Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club clinched the gold medal after their athletes completed the race in 52:36 seconds, followed by Al Fatat Sports Club athletes from Kuwait who completed the race in 53:88 seconds. The bronze went to Saudi Arabia’s Princess Nora University Club, after their athletes crossed the finish line in 1:00:11 minute.

Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club athlete, Hajar Al Khalidi, took command of the field in the 200m competition covering the distance in just 26:15 seconds to secure the gold. Oman’s Worod Al Nasereyeh from Al Bashair Club came a close second as she raced to the finish line in 26:63 seconds. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club athlete Buthaina Al Suwaidi secures the bronze with her 27.81 seconds run.

Ponito Edaw, from Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club, built up a comfortable lead in the 10,000m track and field event clocking 37:25:51 minutes to clinch the gold. UAE’s Ruqaya Al Marzaqi from the Emirates Cultural Sport Club bagged the silver after clocking 54:10:86 minutes, while the bronze went to fellow teammate Tahrir Rashid Ali who turned up the heat on the final stretch to finish in 56:15:68 minutes.

Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club athlete Salha Jasem showcased her class in the 400m hurdles competition as she crossed the finish line in 1:09:14 minutes to secure the gold. The silver went to Kuwait’s Farah Al Hasawi from Al Fatat Sports Club (1:23:24 minutes) while UAE’s Tahrir Rashid from the Emirates Cultural Sport Club Ali bagged the bronze for her 1:31:40 minutes performance.

Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club ended the athletics competitions on a high note on Sunday by clinching the top two medal slots in the high jump competitions. Mona Jihad claimed victory after clearing a height of 1.50m while Raghad Habib took second spot with her 1.45m jump. Kuwait’s Al Fatat Sports Club Sara Anwar took home the bronze with her 1.35m jump.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club fencers Al Anoud Al Saadi and Zainab Mohammed Al Hosani dominated the Epee Individuals on Sunday nailing the gold and silver medals respectively.

The bronze was shared by Bahrain’s Al Hala Club athlete Maram Mohammed Sharif and Sharjah Women’s Sports Club fencer Dana Al Shataf.

Meanwhile, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club booked spot in the volleyball semi-finals, after a mighty clash against compatriots Al Wasl Club.

The intense five-set game kept the crowds at the edge of their seats as the two teams fought tooth and nail to secure each point in the decisive match.

The Sharjah athletes ousted the AWST 2018 champions with a final score of 109-85 in the game that lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes.

In other matches, the Egyptian Sporting Sports Club secured the first spot after winning a 3-set game against Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club with a final score of 75 – 23. Meanwhile, Tunisia’s Club Sportif Sfaxien guaranteed their spot in the next round after an easy 3-0 win against Jordan’s De La Salle Club with a final score of 75 – 39.

In the third game, Algeria’s Le Groupement Sportif des Petroliers dominated the 3-set match against Saudi Arabia’s Princess Nora University Club that ended 75-22 at the final whistle.
