Fourth convocation of Pakistani university held in Dubai

DUBAI: As many as 133 students have graduated and been conferred with degrees in the 4th convocation of Pakistan’s only offshore campus of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) in Dubai.

The ceremony to award degrees and confer medals on high achievers was held at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dubai on Saturday evening.

The graduates passed from the three disciplines of management sciences, media sciences and computer sciences.

The Dubai campus of SZABIST is the only Pakistani institute of higher education based in the UAE that has been serving the Pakistani community since 2003, besides being operating in four cities of Pakistan since 1995 after being established by then premier Benazir Bhutto in memory of her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Director General and Chairman of the board of directors, Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) was the chief guest at the fourth convocation while others who were present included Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Chancellor, Shehnaz Wazir Ali, Acting President, Dr Nawaz Brohi, head of the Dubai campus, a large number of parents and students.

In his remarks, Dr Abdulla Al Karam offered his congratulations to the graduates while highlighting the importance of education for students by qualified professionals.

“I advise all successful students that you should do whatever in their life you choose, but above all be a good human being – not only to some but to everyone around you,” he said.

Earlier while opening the ceremony, Shehnaz Wazir Ali, acting president, shed light on the achievements of the institute and programmes including Microsoft Office Specialist Championship, cricket tournaments and other activities by the multi-national students belonging to countries such as Bahrain, Bangladesh, Iraq, Jordan, Sudan and Tunisia apart from Pakistanis residing in the UAE.

She told the audience that the institute has recently introduced scholarships to six deserving talented students in which two slots were allocated for the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) to nominate.

She also offered her gratitude to the UAE’s government, especially that of Dubai, for hosting the Pakistani institute of higher education providing quality education and serving the local communities.

A total of 975 students from the SZABIST campus in Dubai have graduated.

“You are the ambassadors of the SZABIST and as alumni of this institute, we wish you the best for your careers and life.

“We advise you to choose your career and serve the community with high standards, integrity and high moral values,” she asked the successful students. 

Later the chief guest and other dignitaries awarded degrees to graduate students and other accolades to high achievers.
