UAE face Honduras in friendly today

DUBAI: The UAE national soccer team will take on Honduras in a friendly match in Barcelona on Thursday.

The match will begin at 7pm and is the first of two friendlies during team’s Spanish camp.

In August, Alberto Zaccheroni’s charges played to a goalless draw with Andorra, before suffering a 2-0 defeat to Trinidad & Tobago, but recovered to defeat Laos 3-0 last month.

With the AFC Asian Cup 2019 set to kick off in less than three months and UAE aiming to impress on home soil, the friendly against Honduras will be a crucial test ahead of their Group A challenge against Thailand, India and Bahrain.

Meanwhile, Bahrain and Syria will feature in an all-West Asian affair at the Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa, as both sides continue their preparations for UAE 2019.

A triumph for Miroslav Soukup’s side would mean a first win since their 4-0 victory over Turkmenistan in the UAE 2019 Qualifiers back in March, while Syria will look to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Kyrgyz Republic in an international friendly last month.

At the Al Kuwait Sports Club Stadium, Kuwait will welcome Lebanon in what will be a meeting of familiar foes.

In the past seven years, Kuwait and Lebanon have faced off five times, with a head-to-head record of a win each.

This would be Lebanon’s third international friendly since qualifying for Asian Cup, where they recorded a 1-0 win over Jordan and 0-0 draw with Oman last September.

Head coach Hajime Moriyasu recently announced his squad of 23 players, with the likes of Wataru Endo and Yuya Osako returning to don the Samurai Blue jersey, along with 2016 AFC U-19 Championship MVP Ritsu Doan.

Japan, who reached the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Round of 16, claimed a comfortable 3-0 win over Costa Rica in September and will look to continue their fine form against Panama at the Denka Big Swan Stadium in Niigata.

They then travel to Saitama to face Uruguay on Tuesday, as part of the Kirin Challenge Cup 2018.

Japan are Group F of the Asian Cup 2019 with Uzbekistan, Oman and Turkmenistan.
