THE Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has been organising a series of training courses for all the existing and new cabdrivers.

The courses focuses on good behaviour while driving with an aim of improving the level of services delivered by the DTC to the inhabitants and visitors of Dubai Emirate.

“Eighty per cent of DTC cab drivers have been subjected to these courses, spanning a variety of important topics such as the rights and responsibilities of passengers as well as drivers. The other topics include the seven components of distinguished customer service, advocating safe driving and minimising accidents and traffic offences and recognising new locations. Besides, topics like Global Positioning System (GPS), First Aid education, procedures and policies of the DTC and Public Transport Agency, and Drivers Offences Code are also part of the courses,” said Ammar Bin Tamim, the director of the DTC Fleet Drivers Affairs.

Bin Tamim said that these courses and lectures were provided on daily basis by the Drivers Training and Qualification Centre, Fleet Drivers Affairs Department, where a group of 45 to 50 drivers attend a lecture at a time.

He stressed that the DTC was keen on qualifying and fully preparing drivers before deploying them on driving duties as they were considered as RTA ambassadors. “The DTC introductory education is not restricted only to orientation about safe driving principles and compliance with traffic and driving rules. The DTC also attaches utmost attention to making cab drivers well-behaved,” said the director of DTC Fleet Drivers Affairs.

“Drivers are being subjected to comprehensive and intensive training courses aligned with the best and latest modules globally applied in this regard. A number of educative programmes are being organised in co-operation with the concerned bodies and delivered in three languages Arabic, English and Urdu. The programmes include lectures, practical demos on the best traffic safety practices during driving to maintain the safety of drivers,” said Tamim.
