DUBAI: As part of its Ramadan special initiative, Pakistan Association Dubai paid off 40 prisoners’ fines, and provided air-tickets for them to fly to their home-country, celebrating Eid with their loved ones. Another 350 prisoners too have been offered similar assistance, with the help of Pakistan Consulate, and the association.

The initiative, a part of Ramadan, aimed at serving the community by the officials with the support of philanthropists who secured funds and other assistance to help over 350 Pakistani prisoners by providing them financial assistance, Eid package, air tickets and legal assistance.

According to the press statement issued by the Dubai Consulate, the UAE government was gracious in granting Affoo (Royal Pardon off) to about 2,000 prisoners. Out of which, approximately 442 were Pakistani prisoners.

Lastly, the Consulate expressed gratitude to the UAE government and the jail authorities for pardoning 442 Pakistani prisoners for celebrating Eid with their loved ones in Pakistan.

Rizwan Fancy, PR secretary at the PAD told The Gulf Today the community at PAD has been contributing for a number of noble initiatives, one of the major initiatives being helping the pardoned prisoners. “We are grateful for the community’s philanthropists who came forward and donated. We successfully secured enough for around 80 prisoners from the Al Awir Jail in Dubai to pay off their minor fines and air tickets. We are also thankful to the local authorities who helped through the procedures,” he said.

He told that beside Ramadan Prisoner Help initiative, the PAD has also been carrying out various major Ramadan projects such as providing over 1,000 needy families with meals by the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

“There are 30 female prisoners whom the PAD Welfare Committee officials will extend financial support to,” he added.
