SHARJAH: In line with the Year of Zayed, Sharjah Hilton Hotel organised an Iftar ceremony for “First year of Fasting” Initiative, where 75 young kids are either fasting for the first time, or making an effort to do so, along with their parents, on June 10.

The initiative, which was the idea of Aida Abdulhameed Gamish, a journalist at Al Khaleej newspaper and an Ambassador of Good Intention at Arab Women Foundation, aims to encourage young kids to learn the Islamic values and pillars, love fasting, and at the same time delight kids and their parents, during the special holy days that focus on social cohesion and tight relationships.

The Iftar ceremony, which was attended by 250 people including 75 fasting kids of various nationalities, was held in collaboration with various sponsors, including: Sharjah Police General Command, Fast Building Contracting Company, and Sharjah International Holistic Health Centre.

After the Iftar ceremony, kids enjoyed a fun and entertaining programme, that included competitions, awards, and honouring participants, presented by First Assistant Abdul Latif Al-Qadi from the Department of Media and Public Relations, Sharjah Police, and Media Presenter Ghada Abshar.

Since the slogan of the initiative was “learning from role model .. encouragement .. motivation .. and virtues,” Aisha Al Howaida, Director of Volunteering Department at Sharjah Charity International, delivered a speech for parents on the importance of starting to educate kids at the age of seven so they get used to fasting and know what it is.

Ambassador Aida expressed her pleasure at such an event being hosted in the Holy Month of Ramadan, and the honour to the spirit of the late Sheikh Zayed, who is known for peace, giving, and love.

Among the representatives of the sponsors who attended the ceremony were Jack Claudel, General Manager of Hilton Sharjah, Captain Ahmed Obaid Al-Hajj, Director of Events of Sharjah Police, Heba Fathi Afana, Representative of Fast Construction Contracting Company; Jihad Al-Khafafa, Chief Executive Officer of Photo Cad Gulf, and Dr Hanim Al-Nahhal, Director of Sharjah International Holistic Health Centre.
