Dubai: Fawad Gafoor struck a blazing ton and also grabbed two wickets to guide Old School Boys to a 22 run win over Farooq CC in a high scoring match of the DCC Ramadan League being played at the Oval Ground.

This came against the backdrop of some magnificent bowling from Qais Farooq (4 for 26) for Farooq CC.

Put into bat, Old School were off the blocks in a flash despite the early dismissal of Burhan. The charge was led by Fawad and giving him company was Adnan Arif (31), Amit Mukhi (33) and Mohammed Ibthisam (29).

By the time Fawad departed he had done enough damage. His 100 came off 45 balls and consisted nine sixes and eight fours.

Facing a daunting target of 226 to get from 25 overs, Farooq tried in vain with Abhay Chanan (51), Harsh Babode (32), Qais Farooq (29) and Fawad Al Hashmi (22 not out) battling till the end but to no avail.

In another match played at the Sevens ground Deepak Nicholas joined an elite band of players to have whacked six sixes in an over. Most people would remember Indian cricketers Ravi Shastri and Yuvraj Singh for achieving such a feat but Deepak has added his name to that list. However his brilliant knock failed to take Roaring Lions past White Caps.

Winning the toss and electing to bat White Caps, with the help of 21 extras, posted 234 for 9. Man of the match Rafi Rahim top-scored for his side with 76 which came from five sixes and eight hits to the fence while Ammad Ali missed his half century by a run.

Roaring Lions gave it their best shot with Deepak’s blitzkrieg 49 coming from only 12 balls (7x6, 1x4). Piyush Jhunjhun (26) and Shibu James (29) tried to keep that momentum going but the run rate started creeping up towards the end and the team fell short of their target by 19 runs.
