DUBAI: A gang of three men who splashed a company employee with chilli-spiked water and decamped with Dhs200,000 were sued on Sunday.

An unemployed Asian man, 34, a countryman, 37, and a fugitive accomplice intercepted the Indian victim, 38, along a street in Bur Dubai at around 2pm on Jul.31 and wetted his face with the irritating solution.

He was carrying the money in a plastic bag. They grabbed the plastic bag from him and disappeared. The fugitive handed Dhs150,000 to a compatriot driver, 30, to help wire it to him abroad.

The unemployed man denied. The countryman did not show up. The driver argued that he was not aware the money resulted from a robbery. The court deferred the hearing till Jan.10 for the defence.

The victim narrated that he walked out of a company carrying a plastic bag containing the money inside a parcel. He was walking through parking lots on his way home when a man intercepted him.

“He had a container of water. He threw the water in my face. I felt a burning effect in the face and eyes then lost vision…

I suppose the water contained chilli…Another person snatched the plastic bag. They fled.”
