ABU DHABI: As part of Rotana Earth, the Global Corporate Sustainability Platform, Centro Capital Centre & Capital Centre Arjaan by Rotana in partnership with Sedra Foundation, Abu Dhabi hosted a Ramadan themed workshop for young adults with determination.

Aligned with the goals of the UAE Policy for the Empowerment of People of Determination and the values of the Special Olympics, Sedra, as the Legacy Partner of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, has developed a volunteer programme for young adults with cognitive disabilities: Unified Volunteers (UV).

Open to all people of determination throughout the UAE (students from all schools and centres, employed and homebound persons), the UV programme provides a platform to develop skills, independence, confidence and community connections. In addition, long-term volunteering can create a pathway to vocational training and employment. Research shows that volunteering adds significantly to psycho-social well-being.

The workshop was held at Capital Centre Arjaan hotel where the students learnt various communication skills and dining etiquette. All the students later proceeded for a delicious Iftar meal.

Chadi Nicolassaid, General Manager, commented, “We are extremely glad to have been given the opportunity by Sedra Foundation to host the students and share our passion for hospitality with them.”  He further added, “I look forward to work in partnership with Sedra Foundation in the near future and contribute to the development of the students through active learning that we can offer from our industry.”

As part of the celebrations under the ‘Year of the Zayed’ and spreading the true spirit of sharing the blessings in the Holy month of Ramadan, Dr Tohama Berkdar, UN ambassador for human rights-UAE, hosted a Suhoor event.

It was the second suhoor organised by the prominent businesswoman Dr Berkdar in Abu Dhabi.

The event was organised under the patronage of Suzanne Jubran Al Maaitah and members of the Jordanian Labour Council in Abu Dhabi. Jordanian businesswomen, the Jordanian military attache in the UAE, and the wives of members of the Jordanian Labour Council in Abu Dhabi, also took part.
