ISLAMABAD: Vice Chief of the Naval Staff (VCNS) Vice Admiral Khan Hasham bin Saddique has been designated to be Pakistan’s new Ambassador for Saudi Arabia. He will be replacing Manzoor-ul Haq Khan who returned Islamabad last month upon attaining superannuation.

Interestingly the two capitals; Riyadh and Islamabad both are without ambassadors of each other country.

Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador for Pakistan Abdullah Marzouk Al Zahrani who had relinquished the office on his retirement from the service last week is in the process of returning home but Saudi Royal administration hasn’t designated anyone in his place.

The diplomatic sources said that the decision of retirement about Zahrani has been taken so sudden and in hurry that Riyadh for the first time didn’t propose the replacement and the ambassador is quitting. Pakistan’s new ambassador for Saudi Arabia has quit the slot in Pakistan Navy last week to assume new diplomatic assignment.

He will be third senior officer of the Navy who would be representing Pakistan in the Holy land after Admiral Abdul Aziz Mirza and Admiral Shahid Karimullah as both were then Naval chiefs. The two did their job well as country’s envoy in the Kingdom. Haq who has been retired also performed well as career diplomat, the sources reminded.

Hasham joined the Navy in 1978.

He served as Commander Pakistan Fleet and Combined Task Force 150. Hasham was appointed as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff in 2014.

He was commissioned in the Operations branch of Pakistan Navy in June 1980. The Vice Admiral undertook initial training at Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth, UK.

On commissioning, the officer won the coveted Sword of Honour from Pakistan Naval Academy. He got his early education from prestigious PAF College Sargodha and FSc from Cadet College, Petaro.

During his distinguished career, the Admiral attained vast experience of both command and staff appointments.

His command appointments include Command of a Destroyer, Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy, Commandant Pakistan Navy War College, Commandant National Security College at National Defence University, Commander Pakistan Fleet and Command of Multi National Combined Task Force 150 at HQ NAVCENT Bahrain.
