Gitex a creative forum: Mohammed

DUBAI: Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, visited Gitex Technology Week, which kicked off at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Sunday.

Sheikh Mohammed toured the exhibition and was briefed on the world’s latest technologies that are being showcased by the biggest technology companies.

The Dubai Ruler expressed his pleasure at attending the international annual event, which he described as ‘a creative forum that brings together the majority of international companies with entities and individuals in the UAE and countries in the region’.

Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director-General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai, Major General Talal Hamid Belhoul AlFalasi, and Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

The 37th edition opened doors on Sunday and was inaugurated by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

More than 4,000 companies from 71 countries around the world met at Gitex, where amazing technological prospects were discussed, along with how robotics and artificial intelligence and the Internet collectively promise smarter cities and a life made much easier.


Sheikh Hamdan visited Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dewa’s stand at Gitex 2017.

He was accompanied by Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Airports, and several senior officials from the public and private sectors, and was welcomed by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa.

Sheikh Hamdan inaugurated Dewa’s “Block Chain initiative for Green Charger”, which supports Dubai’s Blockchain Strategy, the first of its kind in the world, and aims to achieve a significant advance in supporting technological and digital transformation in Dubai.

He was briefed on the latest services, initiatives and smart solutions that support the Smart Dubai initiative to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world, by contributing to sustainable development, upgrading government work to the highest standards, and enhancing customer experience, to achieve happiness for everyone.

Sheikh Hamdan also visited Dubai Land Department’s stand and praises its efforts to implement the ‘Dubai Blockchain Strategy.’

DLD’s announcement of its adoption of the Blockchain network resonates widely at the international exhibition. During the visit, he was presented with a detailed explanation from Sultan Butti bin Mejren, Director General of DLD, about the department’s latest technical achievements and move toward becoming the world’s first government entity to process all of its transactions through the Blockchain network.

DLD’s stand has been a popular destination among technology lovers since the first day of the exhibition, following the launch of a number of recent initiatives that will revolutionise the delivery of government transactions. From its S1-A2 stand in Sheikh Saeed Hall 4 - Arena, DLD announced that it has achieved another world first by adopting the Blockchain network in a direct translation of the ‘Dubai Blockchain Strategy’ launched by His Highness in October 2016 and led by Smart Dubai.

Sheikh Hamdan also witnessed how du is providing the catalyst for the UAE digital transformation at Gitex 2017. He was received by du’s Chief Commercial Officer, Fahad Al Hassawi, and Chief Operating Officer, Farid F araidooni, and other representatives of the company’s senior management.

Under the theme of ’10 times more’, du is showcasing how it is going beyond connectivity to mirror the Dubai 10X initiative as announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide the catalyst for digital transformation in the UAE
