Cricket strengthens ties among two communities: Pakistan ambassador

ABU DHABI: Jamil Ahmed Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE and Sarath Wijesinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the UAE, together visited the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium to see the facilities and the arrangements for the upcoming cricket series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka starting on Oct.18 with the first Test Match of the series being played in Abu Dhabi from Oct.18-22 followed by ODI and Twenty20 matches in November.

Both the envoys were exceedingly impressed with the facilities and greatly appreciated Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mabarak Al Nahayan’s vision and support towards cricket in Abu Dhabi. Both assured the Abu Dhabi Cricket Club Management of their support to make the series highly entertaining and successful.

Jamil said that he would try and bring artists from Pakistani Showbiz to have their presence felt and to encourage the Pakistani community to come to the stadium to watch the matches and also enjoy the other entertainment Abu Dhabi Cricket Club plans to offer during the games.

Adding to his comments,  Sarath stated that he also would encourage some renowned Sri Lankan artists to visit and enthrall the crowds.

Dilawar Mani, CEO of the Emirates Cricket Board received the Ambassadors and showed them Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium Abu Dhabi and all the preparations being made to host the series. He also introduced the Ambassadors of both countries to the future plans and developments being undertaken by Abu Dhabi Cricket Club (ADCC).

The Ambassadors also met the event management team and appreciated their efforts to make the upcoming series different and much more entertaining than conventional cricket tournaments.

The Ambassadors emphasised the importance of the series for the ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and also between the communities of the two countries living in the UAE. They also mentioned that they highly recommend the Pakistanis and Sri Lankans residing in UAE to take full advantage of the early bird promotion and the family ticket packages offering great discounts against the published prices.

Abu Dhabi Cricket Club has introduced the Early Bird Promotion and Family Ticket package as incentives to spectators who purchase tickets for Abu Dhabi Matches before Oct.31, 2011 after which the tickets will be sold from various online and retail outlets at printed prices.
