DUBAI: Al Rifa’ah Police Station arrested an Asian father, 60, and his son,40, on charges of issuing dud cheques worth Dhs23 million to buy goods from a number of merchants in several places.

According to Brigadier Ahmed Bin Ghalita, Director of Al Rifa’ah Police Station, the two suspects were arrested in Al Rifa’ah and are currently under interrogation as regards all the received complaints including some from Sharjah.

The duo, who are residing and doing business in the UAE, had issued the cheques that are subject of the complaints before the recent long 4-day holiday in order to buy time to disappear before it could been discovered that they had no funds on their account, Bin Ghalita said, adding that as many as 10 complaints were received by Al Rifa’ah, Nayef and Al Muraqqabat police stations.

Cheques for Dhs1.9 million under the name of the son and others for Dhs21 million in the name of the father had been issued, he said.
