Communication is everything

The communicative path of life is strewn with uncertainties. One misstep and the course of your entire life could change. And irreversibly at that. Permit me to discuss an experience.

He drove up to her lawn, dotted with flowerpots like most houses in the sleepy, but beautiful town. He then put his head out because he didn’t want to remove the seat belt.

She, like always, left the box on the dining table.

He heard her for a good ten minutes. In ten minutes, a lot can be conveyed if you have a clear mind and you are not making a conscious effort to create an impression. And also, if you are not unnecessarily guarded.

He then reversed the car and while doing so he crushed one of the pots. He followed that up with a huge sorry. It was almost dramatic in nature. He then drove away after a passionate and tale-telling wink.

He left a box of chocolates with her.

She, like always, left the box on the dining table. In minutes, hours arrived. They were followed by days, which were followed by months. And the months led to the years.

Sixteen or seventeen years later he ran into her at the airport in Mumbai. They had time on them, therefore, decided to have coffee. During the course of the coffee meeting she discovered to her horror that the box of chocolates had a note for her, which never reached her. He waited almost for a week, but didn’t hear from her. He then left the small town.

She didn’t know what happened to the note and he refused to reveal its content even at the Mumbai meeting.

Had the letter reached her they perhaps would have had a different story to tell today.
