Tragic episode

Over 70 people were reported to be drowned in the incident.

Over 70 people were reported to have drowned in one month.

The tragic episode of drowning in the Philippines in which 72 people died is so sorrowful (“72 dead from drowning after Philippines’ long holiday,” April 10, Gulf Today website).

According to the report, at least 72 people have died by drowning in the Philippines since the start of the month, police said on Monday, attributing the unusually high figure in part to millions hitting the beach for Holy Week.

The holiday is traditionally marked in the Catholic-majority nation by millions of people leaving the capital Manila to spend time with family.

It’s so unfortunate that the Philippines’ long holiday turned into misery. The reason behind a huge number of casualties reported is because of people got a bit excited to go to beaches and resorts as the country emerges from years of mobility restrictions to contain the coronavirus.

The COVID-19 has jolted the world badly. Millions of people died of coronavirus and millions are still fighting for their lives.

Despite the world having achieved huge success in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s so important to be careful with the coronavirus till the official announcement from the World Health Organisation that the COVID-19 pandemic is totally over comes through.

There is nothing more precious than a life. I hope people all over the world will take care of themselves while on holiday with their friends and families. I would like to express my deep sorrow to the families of the victims.
