The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has announced the launch of new services to replace and renew Emirates IDs for citizens. This service streamlines the process, reducing it to a single step instead of multiple steps. As with UAE passport services, the card's validity period will be automatically determined based on the age of the service recipient. This forms part of the second phase of the Zero Bureaucracy Programme.
The ICP explained that developing the Emirates ID replacement and renewal services for citizens is part of its plan to eliminate bureaucracy, modernise its smart services system, shorten customer journeys and make services more accessible. This will meet customer expectations, improve quality of life and enhance the UAE's global standing in government services.
The ICP further pointed out that, through the smart services system, the replacement and renewal of Emirates ID cards for citizens can now be completed in a single step involving submitting the application and paying the fees, instead of the previous multiple steps. This follows the removal of unnecessary fields, such as the personal address, and the elimination of redundant data retrieved from the database. It also follows the removal of previous steps and the display of the Emirates ID card form on a single page, all of which facilitates the application process.
It was also announced that the Emirates ID card application form had been updated in the smart services system so that the system automatically determines the ID card's validity period based on the applicant's age, as is the case with Emirati passport services. It was also noted that if the citizen is 21 years of age or older, the ID card will automatically be valid for 10 years. If the citizen is under 21 years of age, the ID card will be valid for 5 years when the renewal service is requested. However, if the identity card replacement service is requested, the card will be issued according to the remaining validity period of the card. In all cases, citizens requesting the service are not permitted to modify the validity period of the Emirates ID on the application form.
The ICP confirmed that, following the update and development, the Emirates ID card replacement and renewal services are currently available to citizens via its website and smart application. It noted that applicants can enjoy a simple, quick customer journey when replacing or renewing their Emirates ID cards.
