Dubai Police traffic patrols apprehended two drivers for reckless behaviour after they appeared in videos climbing and performing stunts on the hoods of their vehicles while driving, aiming to gain fame on social media and increase views, according to Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police.
Bin Suwaidan explained that such behaviour poses a serious risk to the driver and others, constituting a serious violation of traffic laws. He noted that Dubai Police impounded the vehicles and applied Decree No. 30 of 2023 regarding vehicle impoundment, which requires a fine of Dhs50,000 to release the vehicle.
Bin Suwaidan emphasised that Dubai Police will not tolerate such reckless behaviour and will deal firmly with all forms of dangerous stunts and behaviours on the roads. He affirmed that posting on social media platforms is not a justification for committing traffic violations which endanger lives and public safety.
Bin Suwaidan added that public roads are not arenas for stunts and that exploiting social media to promote dangerous behaviours is completely unacceptable.
He called on the public to adhere to traffic rules and cooperate with security authorities by reporting any dangerous or suspicious behaviour through the "Police Eye" service or by calling the non-emergency number 901, to ensure the safety of all.
