UAE strongly condemns shooting at Prague University

The UAE has strongly condemned the shooting at Charles University in the Czech capital, Prague, which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) affirmed that the UAE expresses its strong condemnation of such criminal acts, and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence that aim to undermine security and stability in contravention of human values and principles.

The Ministry expressed its sincere ‏condolences and sympathy to the government and people of the Czech Republic, ‏and to the families of the victims of this heinous crime, as well as its wishes for a speedy recovery for all the injured.

According to the AP report, three foreign nationals were among the 25 people wounded when a student opened fire at a university in the Czech capital, Prague, shooting dead 14 people before killing himself, authorities said on Friday. It was the worst mass shooting in Czech history.

Interior Minister Vit Rakusan said police in Prague worked overnight and all the 14 who died in Thursday's attack have been identified. The Institute of Music Sciences confirmed that its head, Lenka Hlávková, was among the dead.

The Czech Foreign Ministry confirmed that three of those wounded were foreigners — two from United Arab Emirates and one from the Netherlands.

The bloodshed took place at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, where the 24-year-old shooter was a student, Prague Police Chief Martin Vondrasek said.
