News spread in the Libyan city of Derna about hearing scary sounds at night over the past few days around the places of the dead.

Social media users circulated video clips showing strong sounds and lights emanating from different areas in Libya.

Some claimed that they were the sounds of ghouls. Stories of ghouls have spread like wildfire and some talked about demons which appear in frightening or luminous forms, fire, or predatory animals, and some link them to the great number of deaths.

In another video clip, a man and a paramedic appear saying “Allahu Akbar” in front of Al Sahaba Mosque in Derna, to confront these demons.

The truth started to emerge when men from the Army's 166th Division noticed dolls in white clothes hanging suspiciously amid the rubble.

Army investigations resulted in finding two people involved in this, according to Aqila Al Saber, the official in the media office of the 166th Division.

On being questioned, the two suspects confessed to making dolls, lighting fires in front of them among the rubble of houses, making noises, and photographing them as ghouls just to scare and spread rumours among the residents.
