At least 10 people were killed and 120 injured in an explosion that occurred inside a fireworks warehouse in a market in the town of Sunai Kolok, in southern Thailand.

Sanan Pongaksorn, the town's governor, revealed that preliminary investigations confirmed that the accident occurred as a result of a technical error, during a welding process for pieces of steel inside the warehouse, as part of the construction work being carried out.

Pongaksorn confirmed the control of the fire, after media reports showed that the fire spread to a number of shops, homes and cars, as well as the fall of a number of roofs of buildings as a result of the force of the explosion, according to local media.

One of the eyewitnesses, who lives near the market, said that he was in his house when he heard an explosion that shook the house, then he saw the roof collapse, and when he looked outside he found another house collapsing and many people falling around it.

About 100 residences in the area were also damaged, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
