An ‘hour-old’ baby girl found alive in a garbage bag in Tunisia

Tunisians have been preoccupied with social media after a young man found a baby girl inside a bag dumped in a garbage site in the Lacania region, south of the capital.

While the authorities launched an immediate investigation, the young man appeared in a video clip gently removing the infant from the black bag.

Then the rescuer took off his coat to protect the little girl from the cold, before taking her to the hospital, according to local media.

The authorities launched an investigation to find out the identity of the child and to find her parents. Medical evaluation revealed that child was born couple of hours ago.

The infant was also taken to the hospital for necessary first aid, while the authorities requested a DNA analysis, and then handed over the file to the judiciary in order to complete the investigations.

It is noteworthy that social media was abuzz with the incident, after a video clip of extracting the infant from the garbage spread.

The comments praised the humanitarian work of the young man who saved the infant, amid calls to speed up the pace of investigations to reach her family.
