An Asian died while crossing Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road after being run over by a vehicle driven by an Arab in his twenties. The driver fled the scene of the accident but was arrested within 48 hours.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Omar Muhammad Bughanim, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Sharjah Police, a tip off was received by the Central Operations Room of Sharjah Police at 6:38pm last Wednesday, alerting that a run-over accident took place along Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road, near the Sheikh Khalifa Bridge in the direction of the Emirate of Dubai.

All the concerned authorities rushed to the scene where the cameras showed that the victim was trying to cross Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Street, bypassing the six lanes of the road to reach the other side, but was run over by a vehicle whose driver fled.

The competent authorities tracked the fleeing driver who was arrested within 48 hours. The case file was referred to the Public Prosecution to complete the legal procedures.
