Fog may continue until Monday: NCM

Dense fog covered a number of areas in the country on Thursday, as it lasted for nine hours starting from midnight as result of the country being affected by an extension of a surface low pressure system, accompanied by an extension of an upper air low pressure system, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Among the areas that witnessed fog formation were Al Ajban, Al Samih and Bu Hamra areas in Abu Dhabi, Ghayathi Road, Madinat Zayed, Bida Al Tawa and Mukheiraz in Al Dhafra region, and on Al Khazna, Ramah and Sweihan areas in Al Ain, the NCM said.

It also said that the weather on Friday would be fair in general and partly cloudy at times. Humid by night and Saturday morning over some western areas.

The winds will be light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly, freshening at times causing blowing dust during daytime, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 40 km/hr. The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Oman Sea, the NCM added.

It is also expected to be fair in general and dusty at times during daytime on Saturday. Some cumulus clouds may appear eastward by afternoon.

“Humid by night and Sunday morning over some western coastal areas, while the winds will light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, freshening at times causing blowing dust during daytime, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 40 km/hr,” the NCM added.

The sea is expected to remain moderate to slight in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Oman Sea.

The weather on Sunday and Monday is also expected to be fair in general and partly cloudy at times. Some clouds appear eastward by afternoon. It will be also Humid by night and Monday morning with a probability of fog or mist formation over some western areas. The winds will be light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, with a speed of 10 – 20 reaching 30 km/hr. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.
