The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Arab to one year in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs5,600 for beating an Asian and stealing his mobile phone under duress.

The case dated back to last March when an Asian filed a complaint with Al Rafaa Police Station in which he stated that he had been assaulted and robbed by an unidentified person.

He said he was surprised by the defendant assaulting him while sitting opposite his house, adding that the defendant beat him in the head and slapped him, causing him to lose consciousness. When he woke up after a while, however, the victim discovered that his mobile phone had been stolen and he sustained multiple injuries in the face as a result of the defendant’s assault.

The victim reported the incident to the police and was transferred to the hospital for medical treatment. According to the official documents, a team of detectives were able to identify the defendant after gathering inferences and checking the surveillance cameras and to arrest him with the victim’s mobile phone in his possession.

On interrogation, the defendant confessed to having assaulted the victim after drinking a full bottle of alcoholic beverages in his house. The defendant added that he was drunk when he saw the victim, who he had not met him before, sitting on the pavement. He then assaulted him, stole his mobile phone and fled away.
