Gang throws chilli powder on a man's face, robs him of Dhs14,600 and a phone in Dubai

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced four Asians, including two in the absentia, to six months in prison each, and fined them jointly Dhs14,600 for stealing that amount and a mobile phone from a person in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area.

“They splattered hot chilli powder on his face and beat him up before stealing the money,” the Court heard.

The convicts would be deported after the serving the terms.

The details of the case date back to last April, when an Asian reported the police that he had been assaulted and robbed by four Asians.

He indicated that he was attacked while he was wandering around during noon in the Ras Al Khor Industrial Area.

The cpmplainant said that gang had sprinkled on his face a substance that made him unable to see.

“They slapped and kicked me in different parts of his body until he fell to the ground, and then, stole a handbag that he had in his possession containing Dhs14,000 and his identity card as well as his mobile phone before fleeing the place,” he told the police.

The police officer in charge stated that the investigation team identified the suspects and arrested two of them in the same area and recovered a part of the amount in question in their possession.

The first suspect admitted that one the suspects (fugitive) asked to join them in robbing pedestrians in different places in Dubai by sprinkling them with chilli powder.

He continued, “I monitored the victim on the day of the incident while he was walking near the warehouses in the Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, where we attacked him together and stole a bag and a phone, and then we shared the amount among us, and my share of the theft was Dhs3,000.”

The second suspect admitted that he was one of those who robbed the victim and he got victim’s phone in addition to Dhs2,300 of his share in the theft.
