It is not uncommon to see employees at companies in several countries dozing off at their desks. Some staffers badly need to catch some shuteye as they may have a very busy morning at home, perhaps due to some emergency or urgent work they had to attend to before reaching office. Or perhaps they just kept tossing and turning during the night.

Keeping this in mind, a company in Bengaluru, India, has raised the bar in this field: it announced a 30-minute power nap for its staffers during the workday.

The startup seeks to revitalise the body with a short sleep break to boost work efficiency. But why would it be so keen to see that its staffers are well rested? The answer is not far to seek: it is in the business of sleep.

Wakefit Solutions shared a post on Twitter with two images detailing the 'Right to Nap' and the times when employees can nap, according to a report by a reputed Indian TV news channel.

According to the post, Wakefit co-founder Chaitanya Ramalingegowda recently sent an internal email to colleagues announcing that employees can now take a quick nap between 2 and 2.30pm.

“We have been in the business of sleep for over six years now and yet have failed to do justice to a crucial aspect of rest – the afternoon nap. We have always taken naps seriously, but starting today, we will be taking things up a notch,” he wrote in the mail.

“A Nasa study reveals that a 26-minute catnap can enhance performance by 33%, while a Harvard study shows how naps prevent burnout,” he added.

The firm is also planning towards creating cosy nap pods and quiet rooms in the office to build the perfect nap environment for the employees, the company further wrote.
