British military intelligence said on Sunday the Russian armed forces were seeking to strengthen troop numbers with personnel discharged from military service since 2012, as losses mount from its invasion of Ukraine.

According to the UNHCR, 406,611 Ukrainians have entered Moldova, a small country of 2.6 million people that is among the poorest in Europe but also the closest to the Ukrainian port of Odessa.

The European Commission is encouraging Ukrainian refugees to continue their journey to settle in a European Union country more able to bear the financial burden.
