Parents obliged to pay Dhs20,000 to son-in-law for beating him up in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Appellate Court upheld the obligation of two parents to pay the husband of their daughter Dhs20,000 in compensation for the damages he sustained after they beat him and inflicted physical injuries on him, including bruises on his right shoulder, in addition to destroying his camera.
Details of the case date back to an earlier time, when the daughter’s husband filed a lawsuit against his wife’s parents, demanding that they pay him Dhs52,000 and an interest of 9%, in compensation for the material and moral damages he sustained as a result of their beating him and destroying his camera.
The plaintiff indicated that the parents were convicted of assault according to a final penal ruling, which obligated them to pay a fine.
The Court of First Instance ordered the parents to jointly pay a compensation of Dhs20,000, and rejected his request for interest.
The parents appealed the ruling and demanded that it be cancelled and that the amount of compensation be reduced, noting that they had previously hosted the plaintiff in part of their house, but when they asked him to leave, he fabricated the incident by claiming that they beat him and destroyed his camera, which he placed in the house without permission.
The plaintiff appealed, demanding full compensation.
After the court included the two appeals, it indicated that the parents' assault had been proved, pointing out that the amount of compensation decided by the court was appropriate to the incident, as the daughter's husband did not provide evidence of his loss and inability to work as a result of the injury.
