Sharjah clarifies mechanism of the 4-day work system starting Jan.1, 2022

The Sharjah Human Resources Department issued a circular regarding the mechanisms for implementing the new work system in the emirate from Jan.1, 2022.

The new law stipulates that all government entities are subjected to work for four days a week.

The official working hours are from Monday to Thursday every week starting from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

The government entity has the ability to specify the beginning and end of the working hours according to the work system and the need of the work and the employee.

The shift worker adheres to the deadlines set in his workplace.

The authorities clarified that employees have to work at least eight hours a day.

In the event that an employee works less than specified eight hours a day, the reduced period must be deducted from the duration of the employee’s leave. The circular stipulates that the employee must adhere to the new shift system on dates set by the government.

In the event of an interruption or delay in work during this period, the regulations in force in this matter are applicable to the employee.

Sharjah adopted the new system in line with the vision of UAE vision to enhance its competitive position for various sectors in a way that supports the business environment and the economic market and keeps pace with global development.

The new system is applied to local government agencies in the Emirate of Sharjah.
